BET Networks announced today that Mary J. Blige will be this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 BET Awards.
Blige has had an illustrious career. The “Queen of Hip Hop Soul” has had eight multi-platinum albums, won nine Grammy Awards, and has most recently spread her wings in Hollywood as a critically acclaimed actress. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She’s received two Golden Globe nominations and a SAG award, and has made history in becoming the first double nominee at the 2018 Oscars for the best-supporting actress and best song categories “Mudbound.”
Blige will join the ranks of other well-respected artists who’ve received this award including Prince, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, and James Brown.
According to the Network, this year’s awards ceremony will be hosted by Regina Hall. Bet has also already confirmed performances by Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Migos, H.E.R., Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lizzo, Mustard, Lil Baby, Yung Miami of City Girls, Lucky Daye and Kiana Ledé, and presenters include Taraji P. Henson, Morris Chestnut, Lena Waithe, Yara Shahidi and more.
The 19th annual BET Awards will air live on BET at 8 p.m. on June 21 at the Microsoft Theater in L.A.
