On Monday, the Raptors, Drake and their fans took to the streets of Toronto to celebrate the team’s first championship. However, sometime during the parade, tragedy struck, as shots were fired into the crowd near Nathan Phillips Square.
The Toronto Police Department confirmed the shooting via Twitter, writing, “Shooting: Nathan Phillip’s Square, reports of woman shot, people running from the area, Police/EMS are on scene, unknown what the injuries are.”
In a linked tweet, the account added, “Bay St. and Albert St, police have located two victims, injuries serious but not life-threatening, two people in custody, two firearms recovered, investigating.”
After news surfaced, officials encouraged fans to remain calm to prevent a stampede in the square, as an estimated two million people crowded the area for the parade and rally.
However, after officials controlled the scene, the celebration resumed.
