New Beyonce music is on the way, just as fans continue to swoon over her newly released cover of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” featuring Donald Glover for the live-action film, ‘The Lion King.’ Disney released the full soundtrack tracklist for the film and left one song untitled as “TBA,” which according to ‘The Lion King’ director Jon Favreau, is reserved for a new song written and performed by Beyoncé.
In an interview with Fandango, Favreau said Beyoncé created the song “in the spirit of the production” with composers Lebo M and Hans Zimmer. “They were all collaborating with her and helping to bring this new piece of music into a film where there’s already a very established musical personality to the piece,” he said. “So it was nice of them to have them working with her to allow the new song to feel organically a part of the new production.”
Favreau also shared that Nala’s role in the remake is significantly larger than her role in the original. “In the original film, her role is not as large as in the stage production, and we definitely drew inspiration, and that was one of the areas where we were going to expand this,” he said. “There’s an opportunity to build upon especially the female characters of Sarabi played by Alfre Woodard and Nala played by Beyoncé that the stage play explores further. It has a lot more time to do so than the original film.”
The soundtrack also includes production from Pharrell Williams on five tracks and appearances from Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), Billy Eichner (Timon), and others.
‘The Lion King’ starring Beyonce and Donald Glover hits theaters on July 19.
