#BlackTwitter is reacting to the incarceration of rapper #ASAPRocky. Some Twitter users are even questioning other’s support, highlighting Rocky’s history of mocking and neglecting Black issues.
A$AP Rocky is currently being held in a Sweden jail after a video went viral of him defending his himself, his crew and two women, who claimed to have been harassed. The incident escalated into a full-out brawl, which ended with the rapper being arrested. The 30-year-old was in Europe for his summer tour but is now being held for two weeks in Stockholm where he is under investigation for assault.
While some are signing petitions and advocating for the rapper’s release, others are reminding supporters of Rocky’s previous controversial comments made towards the Black community and the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Regardless of how niggas feel about ASAP Rocky & the shit that he’s said, he’s still a black man in distress incarcerated in a whole different country for something that wasnt his fault. Y’all the same ppl that be like “We gotta protect our black men.” Fucking weirdos.

Chris Brown openly swerves black women yet his album went number 1 but y’all ready to let ASAP Rocky rot in a Swedish jail over comments from 5 years ago, streets is done ??♂️

Black women are often the punchline of society’s joke, and sometimes Black men throw some of those jabs. Rocky became one of those Black men when he said only “fair-skinned” women can pull off red lipstick. “But for real, for me, I feel like with the red lipstick thing it all depends on the pair of complexion. I’m just being for real. You have to be fair skinned to get away with that. Just like if you were to wear like—f*cking for instance, what do dark skin girls have that you know fair skinned girls cant do… Purple lipstick? Naw, that looks stupid on all girls! Purple lipstick, guys! Like, what the f*ck…,” Rocky said during a 2016 interview with The Covetuer. While he apologized, he added that he still meant what he said in the interview.

Why would I boycott Sweden over ASAP Rocky???? The comments he has made about black women were disgusting. Good luck to him in prison. #LockedUpAbroad

It’s really hard to feel sorry for someone like ASAP rocky. He’s the type of black person to distance himself but when you need support from us come crawling back .. you can’t say you don’t care about Ferguson but want niggas to sign a petition … not in 2019

Additionally, Rocky separated himself from the Black community and said he couldn’t relate to Black issues because he lives in SoHo and Beverly Hills, according to a 2015 interview with Time Out New York. “I don’t wanna talk about no fucking Ferguson and shit because I don’t live over there. I live in fucking SoHo and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate,” he said. In regards to the Black Lives Matter Movement, he said “I just get upset, and what I was really trying to say there was, like, yo, I just, I hate when the bandwagon stuff start. I mean, how come, you know, black lives only matter when a police take ’em, when a police officer takes it? And it should be like, black lives; it should matter when a black life take it. You know what I mean? It should always matter. All lives matter!”
The funny ass irony of ASAP Rocky feeling the mistreatment of the law & wanting black people to support him when he dogged #BLM & couldn’t relate to the “poor people in Ferguson” ???

Asap Rocky has said some slick shit over the years regarding black women /things pertaining to black people. Now he’s in jail in Sweden where they could give a fuck less about his black life mattering. The universe is listening to you dumb niggas #stupidass

No one should be wrongly imprisoned but should the Black community have Rocky’s back when he’s blatantly expressed his intentional lack of support for the Black community? What do you think?

Black women are not a joke in society! Black women don’t give a fuck what people say an admirable quality so I don’t know why y’all are being so sensitive letting this ONE MAN’S comment offend you so much…he aint nobody. Wear your lipstick. You’re still beautiful. Some men just like skinny women. You don’t see that stoppin curvy girls from flauntin their thiccness. Everyone is going to have an opinion – in one ear and out the other- we aren’t built to hold on to everyone’s negativity. As far as his “blackness” from an outsiders perspective. People are raised differently, they have different life experiences. Some see injustice on a daily basis-some none at all. Not everyone can relate so I think a lot is lost in translation just on that fact (especially between blacks and whites) I read a couple tweets that I agree with. Not eveyone is worty of being an idol, some just want to rap. Not everyone can carry the burdens of his race and speak for his people that is HEAVY. Someone like that is under intense scrutiny and has high expectations. He is a representative. Some people just want to have fun and be carefree they can’t relate to the pain people feel they lack empathy because they’ve never been in the situation. Just because you’re black and from Harlem does not mean you had the same experience as another black male from Harlem. We have to realize we are all individuals we are not our race. I hope you can look past the freedom of speech he expressed and realize we have an agreement with countries on how prisoners are to be treated. They are violating that agreement. I have never even listened to one of his song I had no idea who he was until I read his famous quote. I’m a 29 yr old ( sigh ok 46 but I look 29) female I am not a political activist I just came across this and had to comment. Please don’t be rude and comment about me not being black, I am fully aware of this. I grew up all over the world and have such an appreciation for diversity. With diversity comes cultures and opinions and freedom of expression and if we can just let people express themselves as much as we express ourselves.
