Cities Around The Nation Are Ready To Fight Against Donald Trump’s ICE Immigration Raids: “You’re Going To Have To Come Through Us”

Advocates and cities across the nation are gearing up for federal immigration raids that are expected to deport thousands of people accused of being in the states illegally.

Immigration reform advocates said communities around Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco would be targeted by raids that are expected to start Sunday and last through at least Thursday. “It’s almost like getting ready for a hurricane – it’s that state of alarm that people are feeling,” said Melissa Taveras of the Miami-based Florida Immigrant Coalition. “People are asking, ‘Is it OK for us to go work? Is it OK to take our kids to school?’”

Each immigration raid routine will reportedly be different in each city, and advocates say ICE authorities have been trained to use terror and harassment as a method for targeting exactly 2,000 families. “It terrorizes the community,” said Milli Atkinson, legal director of the San Francisco Immigrant Legal Defense collaborative in San Francisco. “It’s really going to impact our community to see that happen because with any detention they’re separating the men and the women and the children.”

#DonaldTrump believes the country’s immigration laws has been neglected and that a more inhumane enforcement of the law should be taken. Trump claims the raids will primarily target immigrants who have been convicted of crimes. “Democrats must change the Loophole & Asylum Laws – but they probably won’t! They want Open Borders, which means massive crime and drugs, ” he said via Twitter.

Denver Mayor, Michael Hancock, said city police officers will not cooperate with ICE agents, and said city human service workers will be on alert to assist any minor children left behind if their parents are arrested. “We’re not going to put children in cages or leave them in inhumane conditions,” Hancock said during a call with reporters on Friday morning. “Our job is to help those families as best we can.” Joining Hancock’s move, San Francisco Mayor London Breed also said that the city’s police would not cooperate with any ICE operations and that the city would be protecting its immigrants. “If you want to come after them, you’re going to have to come through us.”
