Lil’ Nas X is still breaking records and making news, 16 weeks after his debut single “Old Town Road” hit Billboard charts.
The song is now tied for most weeks at No. 1 after topping the Billboard Hot 100 for the 16th week. Lil Nas X now shares the honor with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee for “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber in 2017, and Mariah Carey for her 1995 collaboration with Boyz II Men on “One Sweet Day.”
If the song stays one more week on the chart, Lil Nas X will have the longest-running No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history.
According to Complex, “Old Town Road” got a 22% boost in streams over its previous week thanks to the Young Thug and Mason Ramsey remix, although that only accounted for less than a quarter of the single’s total streams for the tracking week.
The song really skyrocketed when country music icon Billy Ray Cyrus hopped on the first remix after Billboard discriminated against Lil Nas X and removed the original song from the country music chart. The song has been at the top spot ever since.
