Lil Yachty is calling Donald Trump’s alleged intent to help get rapper #ASAPRocky out of prison #FakeNews.
It’s been almost a month since A$AP Rocky was arrested in Sweden after getting involved in a physical altercation with two men, an incident that viral via social media, and since then many have stepped forward in advocacy of Rocky’s release. One of the loudest mouths to speak out about freeing the Harlem native was Donald Trump.
Earlier this week, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Sweden’s prime minister, highlighting how videos prove Rocky was being “followed and harassed” by the two men. “Very disappointed in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for being unable to act. Sweden has let our African American Community down in the United States. I watched the tapes of A$AP Rocky, and he was being followed and harassed by troublemakers. Treat Americans fairly! #FreeRocky,” Trump wrote via Twitter. But Trump’s words weren’t enough to convince fellow rapper Lil Yachty that his concerns for Rocky were genuine.
“I don’t think that’s the way to go about it, the way Trump handled it,” Yachty said during an interview with TMZ. “If you gonna do something, then do it. You don’t gotta keep telling everybody just do it.” He explained that he feels Trump is merely pandering to the hip hop community and that there will be no actions after his words, noting that he believes Trump thinks he’ll “really win a lot of black people over.” “I don’t think he doing shit, either,” he said. “That’s my big brother, you feel me? It’s real sad,” Yachty continued. “Whatever he should be doing, he shouldn’t be on the internet about it.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When TMZ asked if he felt Trump even cared about Black people Yachty responded saying, “I’m not Kanye West,” Yachty said. “But I damn sure think he doesn’t care about ASAP Rocky in jail.”
