A$AP Rocky pleaded not guilty to assault charges in a Swedish court on the first day of trial for a street fight that resulted in the rapper’s prolonged arrest and detainment in Stockholm. If convicted, Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) could face up to two years in prison.
Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson read out the charges against A$AP and the two other men in his entourage, Bladimir Corniel and David Rispers, saying they assaulted the victim by kicking and beating him with a glass bottle.
A$AP Rocky’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, however, maintained his client did not commit any crime and was provoked. Rocky said that he was acting in self-defense.
The victim’s attorney, Magnus Stromberg, said his client is seeking 139,700 Swedish krona in damages which equals approximately $14,600.

Text messages between members of A$AP Rocky’s team were also shared, where discussions about “cleaning up” and “deleting” the videos were found.
The trial at Stockholm District Court is scheduled to continue Thursday and Friday.
