The Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates continued their season-long feud on Tuesday night.
Yasiel Puig was caught up in the melee and throwing hands on behalf of his Reds teammates, just minutes after reports surfaced on social media that he had been traded to Cleveland as part of a three-team deal for Trevor Bauer.
Tuesday’s brawl is just the latest episode in the ongoing feud between to the two teams that dates back to April of earlier this year when the teams cleared the bench, as tensions flared over Dietrich’s celebration. Keone Kela, Amir Garrett, and Puig were each ejected for their parts that afternoon.
However, according to FoxNews Sports, yesterday’s nonsense began with the Pirates throwing a pitch at Derek Dietrich’s head.
In fact, those same three players were once again in Tuesday’s chaos. Kela is the one who threw at Dietrich’s head; Garrett later ran from the mound to take on the Pittsburgh dugout by himself, and Puig ended his Reds tenure by going out with a bang.
Cincinnati manager David Bell, who was ejected earlier in the game, said later during the press conference, “It’s a shame that this is allowed and that they’re able to get away with it. They celebrate it. They support it,” he said of the pirates.
Meanwhile, Puig is likely to be handed a suspension to go along with his trade to Ohio.
