Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons recently posted an unfortunate interaction he and his friends experienced with security at the Crown Casino, in his own hometown of Melbourne, Australia.
23-year-old Simmons and his friends were trying to enter the Crown Casino in Melbourne early Monday morning but were all allegedly turned away by security…except the one friend who happened to be white. “I find it so crazy that the only guy who doesn’t get checked to go into the casino is this guy,” Simmons said while pointing to his Caucasian homie.
“I get checked, Mike gets checked, and Taj gets checked,” Ben added. His white friend chimed in, “Not me!” Ben showed the security guards nearby and said, “Thank you, Crown Casino.” Simmons then showed his two friends of color who were also denied entry, and stated, “They didn’t let me in, or him, or this guy. Wow, we got a long way to go.”
It wouldn’t be expected for Simmons to have difficulties entering any establishment in Australia with his long term residency and athletic accolades in the country. Simmons holds dual citizenship and is the son of an American father who spent 13 seasons in the Australian National Basketball League. However, Monday morning seemed to be a different story.
Simmons’ video was deleted from his Instagram stories shortly after posting.
