A Georgia teen has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2018 murder of his older sister over a wifi password.
According to Fox 43, the incident occurred on February 2, 2018, after Kevon Watkins got into an argument with his mother about the internet. The dispute erupted inside the family’s Macon home, over the fact that Watkins, who was 16 at the time, changed the password to play video games without interruption.
As tensions flared, the argument quickly turned to violence between Watkins and his then-20-year-old sister, Alexus Breanna, as she reportedly came to their mother’s defense to prevent Watkins from getting physical with her. However, as the incident escalated, their mother called for help, as she was unable to separate the two.
According to reports, Watkins held Alexus in a chokehold for nearly 15 minutes, and only released her upon deputy’s commands. She fell to the floor and was quickly transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Upon his arrest, Watkins reportedly waived his right to a jury trial. He was later found guilty of felony murder after a Bibb County judge reviewed the testimony and evidence in the case. As a result, he has been sentenced to life behind bars.
