World Boxing Union (WBU) champ Rock Blackwell is ready to step things up notch, enlisting Manny Pacquiao’s former trainer & Olympic gold medalist Roberto Jalnaiz to train with him.
Blackwell has trained with and learned from some of boxing’s greatest such as Roger Mayweather and Freddy Roach. Bringing on Roberto Jalnaiz, the four time boxing Olympian came naturally. As far as Jalnaiz’s thoughts on working with Rock Blackwell he says, “Rock Blackwell is an excellent boxer and will one day win the WBC (World Boxing Council) light heavyweight championship.”
I got the opportunity to interview Rock Blackwell recently and I’ll be posting that interview soon. Some info that I found interesting while researching him is that he lost his pro debut due to really bad management on behalf of his management team at the time, Birmingham Boxing Promotions. In 2009 he not only broke his right hand, but also suffered life threatening levels of dehydration. Those setbacks didn’t stop Blackwell, who went on to win 15 bouts over sees and became ranked 10th in the world for the WBU and IBU titles by the World Boxing Union. Stay tuned for our interview and for now, check out a clip of Rock Blackwell training with Coach Roberto Jalnaiz below.
