Olympic gymnast Simone Biles made gymnastics history on Friday night, as she was not only the first to ever attempt but also land a double twisting, double somersault dismount off the balance beam.
According to TeamUsa.org, the skill will be named after Biles once she competes with the dismount at an upcoming international meet — she landed it at the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. This marks the third skill named after her.
Earlier that day, she also attempted another first— a triple-twisting, double back in competition on the floor exercise, but she ended up coming up short.
Despite the five-time Olympic medalist and 14-time world champion making history, she said that she can’t help but focus on being the best.
As soon as I fell on floor, I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m scratching the meet. I’m walking off the floor,’” she said afterward. “But I’m happy with the way I ended the meet.”
Biles has already proved to be one of the best gymnasts of all-time. Now, she has a 1.75-point lead and is on track to win, yet again, another championship.
