Prosecutors in Texas have decided to seek the death penalty for professional MMA Fighter, Cedric Marks, who’s being accused in the deaths of two people.
The D.A. filed the notice Monday, August 12, 2019, against the 45-year-old pro fighter. According to ESPN, Marks is being indicted for the death of both 28-year-old Jenna Scott, Mark’s ex-girlfriend, and 32-year-old Michael Swearingin, both of whom were killed January 3, 2019, at a home in Killeen, Texas. Their bodies were found a week later in a shallow grave in Oklahoma.
However, Marks pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He also expected the death penalty, as his lawyer Michael White says he’s, “anticipating his day in court when his story is told.”
In the meantime, Mark’s current girlfriend, Maya Maxwell, will also face charges as she was reportedly at the home during the time of the incident, according to an affidavit.
In February, Mark escaped a private prison transportation van following his arrest in Michigan, prompting a manhunt in Texas where he was captured nine hours later.
