A decade ago, Taylor Swift was a cute little country singer who garnered a lot of attention for being interrupted by Kanye West at the MTV Awards. Now, she tops the Forbes list as the highest-paid woman in music. In spite of rumors and controversy over her former record label selling her masters, it seems that no matter what obstacles are thrown her way, she keeps coming back better, stronger and more financially secure than before.
In 2019, Taylor’s Reputation Stadium Tour broke records as the highest-grossing tour in U.S history, earning around $345 million. She also inked a new nine-figure record deal with Universal Music Group, which allows her to own her masters.
According to Forbes, Swift earned $185 million, which is roughly the equivalent to making $500,000 a week. Taylor may not be the urban fan favorite, but her earnings outrank Beyoncé who placed second on the list with $81 million and Rihanna who placed third with $62 million. Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Pink, Celine Dion and Ariana Grande all rank amongst the top ten.
Swift will perform as the opening act for this years MTV VMA’s and is tied with Ariana Grande for being nominated for 10 awards including video of the year and song of the year.
