On Wednesday, video footage of an officer-involved shooting went viral, reigniting debate about law enforcement’s use of force.
In the video, which has since garnered nearly 200,000 views, a suspect can be seen wrestling away an officer’s gun before firing a few shots in her direction. However, according to CBS News, the female deputy was not injured by the gunfire and only sustained minor injuries from the struggle.
As the video continues, the suspect then raises his hands as police close in. Upon arrival, an officer is heard yelling, ‘drop the gun,’ before several shots are fired.
Although news footage later showed the suspect being placed into an ambulance, his current condition remains unknown.
In the meantime, the incident is under investigation, as it remains unclear why officials were called to the location in the first place. But, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s office, this incident, which occurred in the 13000 block of Cabazon Court, was one of two deputy-involved shootings in Victorville on Wednesday.
A second shooting reportedly took place in the 15000 block of Heatherdale Road, but no deputies were injured.
