Teenager Loses Her Memory Every Two Hours After Head Injury, Thinks Every Day Is June 11th

Teen Suffers Memory Loss

Teenager Riley Horner suffered a head injury when she was kicked in the head by a student who was “crowd surfing” at youth agriculture convention. Now, every time she wakes up, she believes it’s that same day.

Horner’s injury continues to baffle doctors as she suffers from numerous seizures. But the doctors initially thought she just had a concussion.

According to WQAD, Riley’s mother, Sarah Horner said, “They tell us there’s nothing medically wrong. They can’t see anything. You can’t see a concussion though on an MRI or a CT scan. There’s no brain bleed; there’s no tumor.”

The injury and constant memory loss has forced Riley to carry a pen and notepad every day in school just to help keep track of which locker is hers, what day it is, and notes to help her remember what she has already forgotten.

Riley said, “I know it’s hard for them as much as it’s hard for me. And people just don’t understand. It’s like a movie. Like I will have no recollection of (this interview) come supper time…I’m not making memories. And I’m just like really scared.”

Riley’s uncle recently died, but she has no recollection of it, so her family has to break the news to her every day.

Her mother Sarah said she is now desperate for doctors to find out what is wrong with her daughter before it’s too late. She said she researched and found that short term memory loss can cause irreversible damage after six months. “(Doctors) told us she might just be like this forever. And I’m not ok with that.”
