Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair has been released on $500K bail just a few days after being sentenced to 3.5 years in his gun case.
As part of his agreement with the court, Telfair had to surrender his passports and stay in New York City. He also agreed to be confined to house arrest from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, all while wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet.
However, there is still a chance Telfair could end up back behind bars. The 34-year-old was convicted of possessing an illegal firearm in June of 2017. In the incident, he was caught with an arsenal of weapons during a traffic stop.
Initially, he faced up to 15 years in prison for the crime, but on August 12, the judge ordered him to serve the 3.5 years instead.
Telfair and his legal team appealed the sentence, asking during the processing time, heād be released on bail, which the judge granted as long as he follows guidelines.
Telfair famously appeared on Sports Illustrated’s cover as a high schooler and played for several teams in the NBA from 2004 to 2015. He was a Trail Blazer’s 1st-round pick in the ’04 NBA Draft.
