Emmy-winning comedian Chris Rock is publishing a new essay collection, according to the New York Times.
‘My First Black Boyfriend’ will chronicle Rock’s experiences with race and relationships including, “stories dating back to when he first began doing standup comedy in the Eighties.”
“A lot of celebrities write books, and they don’t always have something to say,” said Deb Futter, the senior vice president and co-publisher of Celadon. “I think Chris Rock has something to say.”
Futter added that Rock has the ability to “point out things that maybe need to be pointed out in our crazy world.”
‘My First Black Boyfriend’ isn’t Rock’s first rodeo in writing, as he wrote his first no-holds-barred book, “Rock This!” back in 1997. The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member wrote about touchy topics at the time, including President Bill Clinton, the O.J. Simpson saga, and race. The book became a New York Times bestseller.
Rock’s new book is expected to arrive fall of 2020, via publishing house Celadon.
