A six-year-old girl in Florida was arrested, cuffed and fingerprinted after she threw a wild kicking tantrum in her Orlando elementary school class.
According to NBC News, Kaia suffers from sleep apnea, a condition she is working on managing through medication, and was acting out from sleep deprivation. Kaia’s grandmother Merlyn Kirkland said she was horrified to learn Kaia was arrested Thursday after she kicked a staff member at the Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school.
“She was charged with battery!” Kirkland told NBC News affiliate WFLA. “What do you mean she was arrested, he said ‘there was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way,’” Kirkland explained.
Kaia was handcuffed and carted off where Kirkland says she was fingerprinted and even had a mug shot taken.
“They told us we had to wait a few minutes because Kaia was being fingerprinted, and when she said fingerprinted it hit me like a ton of bricks,” Kirkland said. “No six-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot.”
Kaia is now safe back at home and an internal investigation is ongoing.
what is wrong with people? Thats a child, a baby. now if these teachers knew about the medicine and her situation, why call the police? why did the police even do anything?
