A bride allegedly caught her groom raping one of her bridesmaids and decided to marry him anyway.
On August 30, Daniel Carney, 28, sexually assaulted his soon-to-be wife’s bridesmaid after she became overly intoxicated while at the couple’s wedding party at the Shawnee Inn in Smithfield, Pennsylvania, police said.
The bridesmaid told investigators that family and friends were drinking alcohol on the Delaware River in celebration of the couple on September 1, according to court documents. When the woman got too drunk, the bride asked Carney to help the bridesmaid get back into the parking lot. The victim explained that she remembers being led away from the water and woke up to Carney biting her and forcefully grabbing her in the downstairs men’s locker room at the hotel, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

During the alleged assault, the bride reportedly entered the locker room, and the victim said she remembers the bride screaming at Carney. Police said the couple then got into a fight in the parking lot. According to the victim, “it was chaos amongst the entire wedding party” throughout the entire day.
State police said they obtained footage from the hotel, which showed Carney pulling the woman into the locker room as she was “extremely unsteady on her feet.” On the morning of the wedding, the bride texted the woman and asked, “can we just be as happy as possible” for his life. While the groom asked her if she could take emergency day-after contraception, the police said. Despite the alleged gruesome assault, the bride married Carney anyway.
Nevertheless, Carney was charged with one felony count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with an unconscious person, one misdemeanor count of simple assault, and another misdemeanor for indecent assault without consent of other.
