Drake’s Dad Says He Was Not Absent In The Rapper’s Life, Says Drake Said It To “Sell Records;” Drake Responds: “Every Bar I Ever Spit Was The Truth”

Drake’s father says claims about him being an absentee father are not true.

In several songs, Drake has often referred to his father not being as present in his life, but Dennis Graham is attempting to clear his name. Graham visited Power 106’s Nick Cannon Mornings radio show last Friday (Oct. 2) and detailed the alleged strain between him and the Toronto rapper. Graham said Drake only made those claims in order to boost record sales.

“I had a conversation with Drake about that,” Graham said. ” I have always been with Drake. I talked to him if not every day, every other day and we really got into a deep conversation about that, ‘I said Drake, why are you saying all this different stuff about me man like this is not cool’. He goes ‘Dad it sells records,’ and I said ‘Okay well cool.'” Drake has become famous for being able to open up about his relationship and family issues.

On his track, “Look, What You’ve Done,” the artist rapped about how his father allegedly did not pay child support and was non-existent during parts of his upbringing. “And my father living in Memphis now, he can’t come this way/Over some minor charges and child support/That just wasn’t paid, damn/Boo-hoo, sad story—Black American dad story,” Drizzy raps on the 2011 track.

But in response to his father, Drake says every lyric he’s ever written and rapped has been true.

”Woke up today so hurt man,” Drake wrote. ”My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him. It’s sad when family gets like this but what can we really do that’s the people we are stuck with…every bar i ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
