The MS Braemar is a Norwegian-owned, Fred. Olsen Cruise Line ship that has now become the longest vessel to ever sail through Greece’s Corinth Canal. The narrow canal is measured to be 79ft wide in comparison to the 74ft wide ship, making the sail an incredibly tight squeeze. In a press release, the cruise line’s customer service director, Clare Ward, said, “This is such an exciting sailing and tremendous milestone in Fred. Olsen’s 171-year history…. At Fred. Olsen, we strive to create memories that last a lifetime, and with guests onboard Braemar able to get so close to the edges of the Corinth Canal that they could almost touch the sides, we know that this will be a holiday that they will never forget.”
The Braemar set sail on September 27th to begin a 25-day cruise through the Greek islands, Spain and Portugal. Tickets to experience this cruise and bear witness to the history-making event started at $5,500 per person. In video clips and shared images online, hundreds of passengers can be seen crowded together on the deck to witness the ship’s narrow passing through the canal.
