Hollywood honcho Judd Apatow is at his tipping point with Netflix over the company’s new plan to afford customers to speed up and slow down shows and movies when watching from a mobile device.
“Don’t make me have to call every director and show creator on Earth to fight you on this,” Apatow wrote in a Twitter post. “We give you nice things. Leave them as they were intended to be seen.”
Netflix has stated they are receptive to the concerns regarding testing of the speed options. Vice President Keela Robinson shared in a statement that the trials, which for now are only available through mobile devices, was proposed by requests from subscribers who enjoyed the ability to control the tempo as DVD players have allowed for the past decade.
“We have no plans to roll any of these tests out in the short term,” Robinson added. “And whether we introduce these features for everyone at some point will depend on the feedback we receive.”
According to Fox News, Netflix isn’t the only streaming service to offer this feature. Youtube also offers an option that users can access to speed up or slow down what they’re watching.
But this trend is something that Apatow believes will disturb many of his peers who happen to be producers, directors, and actors who put an immense amount of effort into perfecting their work.
“Distributors don’t get to change the way content is presented,” he continued. “Doing so is a breaking of trust and won’t be tolerated by the people who provide it. Let the people who don’t care put it in their contracts that they don’t care. Most all do.”
