Last month, “Keeping Up The Kardashians” aired its Met Gala episode, which chronicled the events ahead of the 2019 event. During the episode, Kim Kardashian tried on her skin-tight, corset Thierry Mugler dress for the annual celebration, which in turn, sparked an argument with her husband, Kanye West, over the risqué fit.
“I went through this transition where being a rapper, looking at all these girls and looking at my wife, like, ‘Oh, my girl needs to be just like the other girls showing their body off,” West explained of his disapproval. “I didn’t realize that that was affecting my soul and my spirit as someone who is married and the father of now… about to be four kids.”
“A corset is a form of underwear,” he continued, adding, “it’s hot, for who though?”
In response, Kim held her ground and slammed West for his hypocrisy, seeing as how he built her up to be confident in the skin she’s in. “So the night before the Met, you’re going to come in here and say that you’re not into a corset vibe? You’re giving me really bad anxiety. You knew last night I had really bad anxiety, and I don’t need any more negative energy, and for you to say, you’re now not into me wearing a tight dress.”
“You are my wife, and it affects me when pictures are too sexy,” West fired back, as Kim responded, “You built me up to be this sexy person and confidence and all this, and just because you’re on a journey and transformation doesn’t mean I’m in the same spot with you.”
The argument ended with West storming off, as social media quickly reacted to the clip, commending Kim for sticking up for herself. But, despite the televised tiff between the two, Kim says its all part of a healthy relationship, and although the two don’t see eye to eye on a few things, in regards to West’s spiritual journey, she says she will always honor him as her husband.
“So I obviously want to honor him and what he’s feeling,” Kim explained Tuesday on The Real. “And he’s been going through this life change, and it’s mostly about the kids. We got rid of TVs in the kids’ rooms and removed makeup from North’s room – and he’s been very… had this, you know, an epiphany of being this – not that he wasn’t an amazing dad – but being a little bit more strict as a dad and being very forceful on the imagery that’s in our household and what they see.”
Although she agrees with the changes for the children, she says she draws the line when it comes to who she is as a person. “I’m always going to be me…and so, we had that discussion and that fight,” she said, referring to the Met Gala argument. “I think, at the end of the day, that’s what marriage is. He’s gonna do things that I don’t agree with, and I support him, and vice versa. So, with this, it was like we were like just having this conversation of what is too much, and I am a mother of four, like, I’m gonna be forty next year, like, when is it time to…”
Before Kim could continue, Tamera Mowry asked if she was referring to Kanye’s religious journey, which she confirmed, saying, “Yes. And just where he’s gone in his life and maybe things that he did a year ago, he probably wouldn’t be doing today.”
“And I love that beautiful journey, as well. And I think that is such a great example for our kids. Um… but, you know, there’s also that fine line of, you know, staying firm and doing what you feel comfortable with. And I take a little bit of him, and I respect what he’s saying, and I totally compromise,” she said.
