After being arrested at least 15 times between 2012 and 2019, 26-year-old Dontrell Scott has been arrested again for robbing a SunTrust Bank in Columbus, GA.
According to the CBS-affiliate WRBL, Scott walked into the bank around 3:45 pm on Tuesday, leaving with an undisclosed amount of money. Security cameras were able to capture his face in plain sight as he wasn’t wearing a mask and sported a Chili’s restaurant tee.
Scott was arrested later that day in Phenix City at a car lot as he attempted to purchase a car with cash. The salesman, D. Cochran, who worked at Ask D Auto Audio Sales, opened up about selling Scott the vehicle.
“He said I would like to buy any one of your cars,” Cochran told the publication. “He said I like this Mercedes, and I told him the price of the Mercedes. And he said, ‘Well, I’ll take anything I’m just in a rush.’ I said, ‘OK, well, let’s go inside.’ He said, ‘I got the money right now.’ So he showed me a wad of cash. When he showed me the cash, I was like, ‘Whoa.’”
Around the same time, Columbus police were beginning to circulate his image across local media outlets.
By 7 p.m. that day, local police reported Scott’s arrest at the car lot.
“A photo of the offender was released to the press by the investigating agency,” as said in the Phenix City release. “An anonymous caller advised Phenix City dispatch that a male subject fitting the description of the robbery suspect was observed near the area of 16th Avenue and the 280 Bypass.”
According to photos released by the Phenix City officers, Scott was still wearing the same shirt from the initial security photo.
Scott’s Tuesday arrest makes for the second time he’s been in the Russell County Jail, according to Sheriff Heath Taylor.
Mugshot Databases at the Muscogee County Jail showed that Scott had been arrested in Columbus numerous times with charges ranging from driving without a license and prostitution.
As of now, Scott remains in the Russell County Jail awaiting extradition to Columbus.
