Maryland authorities arrested a bank teller who went to the home of a man who made a large withdrawal earlier in the day to rob him.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home of a 78-year-old man in Bel Air on Monday. Deputies determined he was brutally assaulted and robbed by 19-year-old Nathan Newell in a violent home invasion.
According to NBC News, Newell forced his way inside the victim’s home, but another person inside was able to intervene during the attack.
Newell did escape before deputies arrived, but he was recorded on a doorbell camera, and that helped detectives track him down. He was arrested at work on Thursday, and the bank where he worked is said to be cooperating in the investigation.
“In 34 years in law enforcement, I can’t think of another case where it’s almost like a reverse bank robbery,” Sheriff Jeff Gahler said.
The two people inside the home, including the 78-year-old man, were treated for injuries sustained during the altercation and have since been released from the hospital.
