Netflix is looking to take a step in a new direction and re-open New York’s iconic Paris Theater.
Taking to Twitter to announce the ‘major news’ the company said, “We’re beyond thrilled to announce that the doors to New York’s iconic Paris Theater will remain open!”
“After closing earlier this, The Paris – New York’s last single-screen theater reopened for a limited run of MARRIAGE STORY. Now, the iconic theater will be kept open and become a home for Special Netflix events, screenings, and theatrical releases,” the massive company explained.
Netflix has been looking into taking its films to theaters for some time now as earlier this year the company was interested in purchasing The Egyptian in Los Angeles as well, according to Deadline.
Aside from showcasing its original films in The Paris Theater, Netflix also plans on holding events along the lines of award screenings, cocktail receptions, premieres, etc.
For Netflix films to qualify for award shows like the Oscars, it’s films have to be showcased in a theater for at least seven days.
