Defensive Back for the Arizona Cardinals, #JoshShaw, has been suspended for the 2020 season due to placing bets on #NFL games. The NFL’s official gambling policy states that league personnel is “prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or indirectly through a third-party, on any NFL game, practice or other event.”
In an official statement from the league, they explain why Shaw is being suspended stating, “NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell today suspended JOSH SHAW of the Arizona Cardinals indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the 2020 season for betting on NFL games on multiple occasions this season. Shaw is currently on Injured Reserve.”
While Shaw won’t be able to apply for reinstatement until Feb. 15, 2021, he is currently able to attempt to appeal his suspension.
While Shaw is being suspended for betting on games, the league confirms that after an investigation no evidence has been found of any games being compromised by Shaw’s bets.
“A league investigation uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way,” the statement reads. “Nor was there evidence suggesting any awareness by teammates, coaches or other players of his betting activity.”
In a tweet by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, he goes further into detail about Shaw’s situation writing, “On the Josh Shaw suspension, via sources close to him: Shaw went to a Vegas casino this fall with buddies from HS. He’s on IR & hasn’t been around the team since the preseason. Shaw placed sports bets for the 1st time based on misinterpreted understanding of the Supreme Court ruling.
