The youngest of the DeBarge family musical group, Chico DeBarge, was arrested in Burbank, CA earlier this month for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
According to authorities, DeBarge was spotted by police in a Walmart parking lot using a piece of wire to try to unlock an SUV. Thinking he was trying to break in, officers approached DeBarge and searched him; allegedly finding methamphetamine in his pockets and drug paraphernalia in the SUV.
He was arrested, then released after processing at the Burbank City Jail. Formal charges are pending review by the City Attorney.
Police were able to confirm the SUV belonged to the singer, who had locked his keys inside his vehicle, hence the attempt at breaking in with the wire.
According to Madame Noire, Chico served time for drug trafficking after releasing his self-titled album in 1986 featuring his hit single “Talk to Me.” He resurfaced in 1997, releasing his album ’Long Time No See’ but fell out of the spotlight again. He was also arrested in 2007 for drug possession.
