Rookie Chase Winovich of the New England Patriots was in the giving spirit this holiday season as he gave back to his hometown in a big and thoughtful way.

In a gesture that not many would think of, Winovich decided to pay off the debt for students who receive subsidized lunches in a Pennsylvania school district.

Winovich attended school in the West Jefferson Hills School District and decided to give back to the students currently attending.

Taking to Facebook to express their gratitude, the district released a statement writing, “WJHSD expresses heartfelt thanks to TJ Alum and New England Patriots Chase Winovich for paying off all of our students’ free and reduced lunch debt! According to Chase, “Growing up in TJ, the community has always been so important to me. It’s great to be able to give back during the holidays!” We are truly grateful for all you do for our students and schools! #WerTJ,” the district concluded.

Winovich also took to Twitter to reminisce on his experience playing Santa in a holiday show writing, “When I was in 5th grade, and after several intense rounds of auditioning, I was named Santa in the Holiday show. No big deal.”

Winovich graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and from there, he attended the University of Michigan where he played football all four years before the Patriots picked him in the third round of the 2019 draft with a $3.8 million four year contract.

To date, Winovich has played in 15 games with the Patriots this season and has 19 combined tackles and 5 ½ sacks, according to Fox News.
