Police arrested a man accused of picking up a sleeping woman and carrying her off a subway train in the Bronx. The incident was captured on cellphone video.
According to reports, it happened around 2:30 a.m. on a Monday at the Morrison Ave and Soundview station, where a 48 year old man identified as Sonny was seen on video lifting the woman and carrying her off a No. 6 train. The footage shows the woman wake up, yell “no,” and run back onto the train. She then tells a person who appears to be her partner what happened and points the man out. The video ends with the man walking away from the crowd of riders.
A second video, recorded hours later near Rosedale and Randall Aves, shows the same man being confronted and attacked by a group of people on the street. Reports say he got away and ran into a nearby deli. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with minor injuries and was later arrested after police connected him to the train incident. According to reports, he had prior arrests.
No public response from Sonny was included in the original reports. Police have described the train incident as an attempted kidnapping, and as with any arrest, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
