While the world awaits Rihanna’s long-awaited new album, legendary Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall musician Shaggy has revealed that he turned down an opportunity to collaborate with Rihanna on her forthcoming project.
“They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah,” the ‘It Wasn’t Me’ singer told Britain’s Daily Star news publication.
For some time now, it’s been reported that Rihanna’s upcoming album will be a full reggae album featuring producers of the popular genre as well.
“There’s a lot of great people involved, but for me, I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys. But from what I hear, it should be good,” Shaggy continued.
While the pop star’s new album has yet to be titled – or the title is yet to be revealed to the public- fans have simply been calling it ‘R9’ in reference to the project being Rihanna’s 9th LP.
Rihanna’s last album ‘Anti’ was released in 2016 and featured hits like ‘Work’ featuring Drake, ‘Needed Me’ and ‘Love On The Brain.’ The album also became the first album by a black woman to spend 200+ weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Forbes.
There is no word on when her new effort will be released.
