Friday morning, around 8:20 am, a teacher was fatally shot, and six others were injured after a student opened fire at Cervantes School in Coahuila, Mexico.
The sixth-grade shooter, who was identified as Jose Angel Ramos, showed no signs of problems at school or home.
Coahuila Gov. Miguel Angel Riquelme told CNN, “classmates said the boy was generally well behaved but voiced a star age warning before his rampage on Friday.”
Ramos proceeded to fatally shoot himself after the attack.
The Washington Post reported, Ramos wore a white t-shirt with a “Natural Selection” logo — a video game — prior to shooting. It is believed he was inspired by the video game.
The video game manufacturers have yet to respond for comment, according to CNN.
This shooting comes during a time where homicides in Mexico are at an all-time high, yet, the gun laws in the country remain very strict.
“Here you can’t just go to Walmart and buy a pistol, like in the US,” said journalist, Javier Garza. Albeit, he went onto say how easily one can be acquired on the black market.
Authorities are not sure how Ramos initially accessed the weapons.
This school shooting appears to be the worse Mexico has seen in a few years. In January 2017, a high school student opened fire in Monterrey.
