The Sussexes’ announcement to “step back” as senior royal officials left the royal world in a frenzy. This decision comes after almost two years of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being officially wed.
“The statement was rushed out, and part of the reason for that is that Harry knew he needed to take swift action,” an official told The Sun. “Meghan has not settled in the UK, and he knows that and wants her to be happy.”
Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision is not that unforeseen. The life Meghan has endured in the UK has been described by her as “toxic.” And the two have always felt like “outsiders,” old friends told reporters. Therefore, the redefining statement was likely to happen. But, Harry sped things up fearing his wife was “on the brink,” The Sun reported. “He feared staying in the UK too long would lead to Meghan having a meltdown.”
The couple will be splitting their time between Britain and North America, specifically Canada. Meghan has told friends that a move to Canada will be a “welcome escape…”
Harry and Meghan are looking to grow as a family out of the spotlight, “pursue their private interests” and work towards financial independence.
Social Media inevitably blew up, labeling this rare yet powerful statement as progressive. Nonetheless, many were critical.
The family is deeply disappointed by the decision. Prince William expressed his sadness to UK’s Sunday Times.
We have to assume that it will take time for any major change to be implemented. Nevertheless, this new chapter for the couple is a step in the right direction for an outdated system.
