MLK III Slams Trump

In typical Trump fashion, Trump took the opportunity on Martin Luther King Day, to not highlight the profound work of Dr. King, but to instead boast via Twitter about his economic reach within the black community, something that did not go over well with many, in particular, the eldest son of Dr. King, human rights activist Martin Luther King III.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Trump tweeted about progression in the African-American communities, proudly saying, “African-American Unemployment is the LOWEST in the history of our country, by far. Also, best Poverty, Youth, and Employment numbers, ever. Great!”

However, the son of the civil rights leader was not exactly impressed with Trump’s claims. In fact, he seemingly refuted them in their entirety, asking if these statistics were “actually documented and true?”

“When I travel around the country, between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, African American unemployment rates are 40, 50, and 60 percent in some communities.” He revealed to CNN. He continued by saying, “If we were as well-off as being stated, you would see violence decreased. You would see a community exist in more of a different way.”

The tweets may serve as a desperate attempt at Trump trying to garner some trust from the black community after a recent Washington Post-Ipsos poll revealed that 8 in 10 African Americans believe the president to be a racist.
