According to PEOPLE, ex-NBA player, and two-time NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury is the topic of an upcoming documentary, and the first trailer has just been released, giving fans a taste of what’s to come from the powerful special.

The documentary titled ‘A Kid From Coney Island,’ showcases Marbury reflecting on his life from the ups to the downs, starting with humble beginnings in the projects to becoming an internationally known basketball player. It also explores Marbury’s journey to losing it all and going back to having nothing.

“I went from making $20 million a year to zero,” Marbury can be heard saying in the trailer. “It wasn’t about basketball anymore.”The project is produced by actor Forest Whitaker and film producer Nina Yang Bongiovi.

Whitaker and Bongiovi spoke highly of Marbury and explained why a documentary about the phenom is necessary, stating, “Stephon’s journey is not without its turbulence, but that’s real life.”

While growing up in Coney Island, New York, not having much, Marbury was just a young boy who repeatedly watched his older siblings fail to make it to the NBA after their college careers.

However, despite his siblings’ setbacks, Marbury would go on to the league and play in the NBA from 1996 to 2009 for several teams such as the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Phoenix Suns.

Following his exit from the NBA in 2009, Marbury took his talents to China to professionally play in the Chinese Basketball Association.

“He’s a cultural ambassador between Asia and America today — and we love seeing him rise and inspire millions of youths around the world,” Whitaker and Bongiovi continued.

The film, which is directed by Codie Simmons & Chile Ozah, and executive produced by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman, will see a limited theatrical release this summer, PEOPLE reports.

Rich Kleiman also spoke with PEOPLE about Marbury and his phenomenal story, stating, “I think all of us as consumers and viewers always want to see that heroic story and that redemption story. I don’t think people really understood how low it got and what great heights reached.”

The film will feature cameos from Fat Joe, Stephen A. Smith, Cam’ron and Chauncey Billups, according to the publication.

“What he achieved in China, on the opposite side of the world, was incredible and mind-blowing. I can’t even imagine another story like this in any sport, ever,” Kleiman continued.

“My goal was to change the world. You gotta start where you from,” Marbury closed out the trailer saying.
