As Super Bowl, Sunday approaches, more details are revealed about what to expect from the big night.
Singers Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are gearing up to blaze the stage during the halftime show and have hinted at the possibility of tribute for the late NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant.
In a press conference held on Thursday, Shakira and Lopez sat side by side and shared as much information as possible for their highly anticipated performance.
At one point in the conference, the duo explained how they found out about the tragic news of Bryant’s passing.
Lopez revealed she found out from her husband, former MLB player Alex Rodriguez.
“Alex walked in with tears in his eyes and said, ‘You’ll never believe what just happened,’” Lopez recalled.
Shakira also happened to find out from her boyfriend, Gerard Piqué.
“Well, Gerard, my partner, called me with the sad news,” Shakira explained. “He was very affected. I can’t imagine the pain that his family must be going through right now. Life is so fragile — that’s why we have to love every moment as intensely as we can.”
Shakira continued by hinting at a possible tribute for the legendary basketball player during their set on Sunday.
“I think we will all be remembering Kobe on Sunday, and we’ll be celebrating life and celebrating diversity in this country,” she explained. I’m sure he will be very proud to see the message that we will be trying to convert on stage because I think it’s a very important moment for the Latino community.”
According to Variety, other artists we can expect to see during the pre-game show include Dj Khaled, Pitbull, and Dan + Shay.
Demi Lovato will tackle the National Anthem, while Yolanda Adams Covers “America The Beautiful.” Proceeds from Lovato and Adams’ renditions will go toward the NFL’s “Inspire Change” initiative.
The NFL has announced that each performance occurring throughout the evening will be included in a visual album.
The Super Bowl LIV kicks off Sunday, Feb 2, at 6:30 p.m. eastern time.
