On Tuesday, WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, was arrested after yoking up his baby mama at a celebrity basketball game in Florida.
The incident occurred on Saturday, February 1, just one day before the Super Bowl kicked off in Miami. In a video of the incident, Davis is seen walking up to his ex, Andretta Smothers, who seemed to be sitting in the audience with another man. As the boxer approaches her, he grabs her by her clothes and drags her out of the facility.
Video of the incident quickly went viral, which forced Davis to address the situation on Instagram, saying, “I never once hit her.”
Yea, I was aggressive and told her come on,” Davis continued, adding, “That’s the mother of my child. I would never hurt her other than that. Happy New Years. January was trasssssh.”
According to a press release, Davis turned himself in after reports surfaced of the incident, and as a result, he’s now facing one count of simple battery domestic violence.
“As a result of an ongoing investigation after being notified through social media and the victim, on Feb. 1 2020, [Davis] was observed battering his former girlfriend whom [sic] have child together,” police said, according to the publication. “[Davis] surrendered himself to the Coral Gables Police detectives assigned to the case.”
