Back in November 2017, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons was accused of sexual abuse. Since then, several other women have come forward with allegations, forcing the business mogul to step down from his businesses and retreat to Bali to find peace.
But now, one of his victims have stepped forward in order to share their truth in a new documentary ‘On The Record.’⠀⠀⠀
The documentary, which was originally backed by Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+, has now been purchased by HBO.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Page Six, the documentary by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering follows Drew Dixon, a former employee of Simmons, as she recalls the 1995 incident, in which she claims Simmons allegedly raped her.
HBO picked up the film just one week after its premiere during the Sundance Film Festival, where it was positively received by audiences receiving two standing ovations.
HBO Max’s head of original content Sarah Aubrey shared her sentiments on Dixon’s story in a statement saying, “The fierce determination of Drew Dixon and all the women who bravely chose to share their stories in ‘On the Record’ moved us profoundly.”
Simmons has denied any allegations regarding sexual abuse.
