Nicki Minaj’s viral Rosa Parks rap line was reportedly “bad timing.”
Earlier this week, Baller Alert reported that Nicki Minaj was hit with backlash after a snippet of her new song “Yikes” was posted online. The song featured a controversial line about the civil rights leader. “All you bitches Rosa Parks, uh-oh, get your ass up,” Nicki rapped in the song.
When the video met social media, it didn’t take much time for people to react, calling the line inappropriate and disrespectful. Others dissected the song, saying Nicki was challenging fake activism. But not only did people feel the verse was out of line but also that it was poor timing given Parks’ 107th birthday was on Tuesday.
However, TMZ reports that Nicki didn’t intentionally time out the line to be released amid Parks’ birthday. Sources “connected to” the Queens rapper said Wednesday that she did not “in any way” write the line to offend or disrespect Parks. “It was a coincidence and in hindsight . . . we’re told maybe bad timing,” according to the report.
All in all, most of Nick’s fans are just happy to see that Nicki is back in the studio despite previously hinting at retirement. Last week, Nicki dropped a video of her new song with #MeghanTrainor.
