Shannen Doherty Fires Back At State Farm Insurance, Claims They are Cigarette Shaming Her

“90210” and “Charmed” star Shannen Doherty is fighting back against what she calls a “smear campaign” from State Farm Insurance.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Doherty is claiming State Farm is invading her privacy as well as making false claims about her smoking habits, as the actress claims she quit smoking after she was diagnosed with cancer years ago. As a result, she wants a judge to punish the insurance giant with serious sanctions.

State Farm maintains Doherty, who recently announced that she has stage 4 cancer, was smoking cigarettes up until March 2019. But Shannen vehemently denies the accusations, saying she kicked the habit back in 2015 after her original breast cancer diagnosis.

The legal battle between the actress and the insurance giant is related to Doherty’s claims for home repairs costs following last year’s devastating wildfires in California.

State Farm, which has already paid $1 million, contends her home didn’t suffer fire or structural damage and that Shannen “improperly claims she is entitled to have her entire home rebuilt at a cost of $2.7 million because she has breast cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.”

The company went so far as to say, “In fact, the first sentence of [Shannen’s] memorandum … reveals [her] plan at trial to garner sympathy by her contention that State Farm must rebuild her entire house …”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the court docs, Shannen responds, saying it’s utterly ridiculous that State Farm is attempting to smear her image by raising her tobacco use in this lawsuit. She’s also upset that the insurance company released her private medical records and home address to the public.
