Thai soldier, Jackraphanth Thomma, 32,
who went on a deadly shooting rampage Saturday has been killed by security forces authorities have confirmed. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said early Sunday Thomma had been shot dead, and that the Terminal 21 mall in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat, had been secured. “Thank you, police and army for ending the situation. Shooter shot dead!!!,” Charnvirakul said in a Facebook post.
The rampage began around 3:30 p.m. at the Suatham Phithak military compound, where Thomma allegedly shot and killed his commanding officer, Anantharot Krassae. Thomma also shot others at the compound before stealing more weapons and ammo and fleeing in a Humvee. He was allegedly shooting randomly as he drove to each of his target locations, which included a Buddhist temple and a popular local mall.
According to the NY Post, police and soldiers stormed the mall just before midnight, rescuing hundreds of innocent people and killing Thomma. The death toll from all locations where Thomma opened fire is 21, with more than 30 individuals suffering injuries.
