The Film Academy Says Limited Time Is The Reason Actors Cameron Boyce and Luke Perry Were Excluded From Its ‘In Memoriam’ Oscar Segment

The Film Academy has broken its silence on why both Luke Perry and Cameron Boyce were excluded in Sunday’s In Memoriam segment during the 2020 Oscars.

In a statement, the Academy said that the exclusions came down to how much time was allotted for the segment.

“The Academy receives hundreds of requests to include loved ones and industry colleagues in the Oscars In Memoriam segment. An executive committee representing every branch considers the list and makes selections for the telecast based on limited available time. All the submissions are included on Oscar.com and will remain on the site throughout the year. Luke Perry and Cameron Boyce are remembered in the Oscar.com gallery.”

Perry’s absence from the tribute segment of the show was notably odd, as he made his final guest role in the best picture nominated film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The actor passed away last March at the age of 52.

However, the segment featured NBA icon and Oscar-winner Kobe Bryant and Oscar nominee Kirk Douglas.
