An Iowa man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman and forcing her to watch “Roots” to “better understand her racism.”
According to The Gazette, 52-year-old Robert Lee Noye was arrested on Monday for holding a woman hostage and forcing her to watch the nine-hour miniseries based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel, “Roots: The Saga of an American Family.”
Starring John Amos, Louis Gossett Jr., and LeVar Burton, the film chronicles the capture and enslavement of Kunta Kinte and the subsequent liberation of his decedents.
In the incident, according to a criminal complaint, Noye forced the woman to watch the film, “so she could better understand her racism.” But when she tried to flee the scene, he reportedly threatened to kill her “and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago.”
As a result, Noye faces charges of first-degree harassment and false imprisonment.
