Deontay Wilder Claims His Heavy Uniform Delayed His Leg Strength: “He Didn’t Hurt Me At All…My Uniform Was Way Too Heavy For Me”

Deontay Wilder is seeking a rematch against Tyson Fury after Saturday’s defeat.

Wilder is looking to exercise his rematch clause against Fury despite his technical knockout; as he blames the 45-pound costume he wore during his intro as the reason for the first loss of his career. He claims that the weight of the costume weakened his legs, ultimately affecting his stamina.

“He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is… that my uniform was way too heavy for me,” the 34-year-old revealed to Yahoo Sports. “I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through,” he continued.

Despite the lack of leg strength, Wilder was determined to complete the fight, no matter what.

“But I’m a warrior, and people know that I’m a warrior. It could easily be told that I didn’t have legs or anything,” he said. “A lot of people were telling me, ‘It looked like something was wrong with you.’”

“Something was, but when you’re in the ring, you have to bluff a lot of things. I tried my best to do so. I knew I didn’t have the legs because of my uniform.”

However, in a sign of good showmanship, he also congratulated his opponent on his victory.

“I’m super happy for Tyson Fury, and I really want to give him my complete congratulations.”
