Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson reveals that he’s considered leaving the late-night program over feelings that the show doesn’t take him seriously as a comedian.
Davidson,26, joined the iconic sketch comedy series back in 2014, and while for most, being cast on SNL would be a dream come true. But, Davidson told #CharlamagneThaGod in an interview that he feels the show has repeatedly made him the joke rather than the jokester. “I have a weird feeling in that building where I don’t know whose team they’re playing for, really. If I’m the joke or I’m in on the joke,” Davidson said.
Some of Davidson’s most iconic characters are those that make light of the performer’s sensitive and personal details of his life and his sketches portraying the dense roles like not-so-bright Chad. The feeling of mistreatment has compelled the comedian to consider leaving the show completely. “If I’m just fodder now, though, maybe I just shouldn’t be there. They think I’m fucking dumb. Like, I’m literally painted out to be this big dumb idiot.”
Whether he stays or goes, Davidson is keeping himself busy with other projects, according to Refinery 29. “I love writing, hanging with my friends, standup,” he said. “It’s the ultimate distraction.” Up next for Davidson is his first comedy special “Alive From New York,” which is now streaming on Netflix, as well as the upcoming “Big Adolescence,” Davidson’s first full-length feature film.
