When it was reported last week that former Falcons linebacker Prince Shembo killed his girlfriend’s dog, I’m sure many people wondered what could have caused him to do such a terrible thing. Well, according to his now ex-girlfriend Denicia Williams, the reason behind his actions was that he was jealous of her Yorkie, Dior. In an interview with WXIA in Atlanta, Williams told her side of the story. “He said you were spending too much time with him and I felt second to him,” Williams said.
Shembo, on the other hand, is claiming that the reason he killed the dog was because the dog bit him on the ankle and he reacted by kicking him. That’s his story and he’s sticking to it. But if that is the case, Williams says, “Why didn’t he tell me that when he confessed? Why didn’t he say, ‘Dior bit me and I reflexed by kicking him, and I’m sorry?’”
On top of being hit with felony animal cruelty charges that could potentially put him behind bars for up to five years, he is getting sued by Williams for killing her dog. Shembo was booked into the Gwinnett County jail last Friday night but posted bail soon afterwards. Shembo was also released from the Falcons as soon as the news became public and has yet to be picked up by another team. So far, it looks like most NFL teams do not see his talent as being worth the negative publicity and obvious character issues he brings.
Interestingly enough, this is not Shembo’s first time being involved in a controversial situation. Back in 2010 while he was playing at Notre Dame, he was under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student from St. Mary’s College. However, the investigation never panned out because the woman committed suicide just days after the alleged incident occurred and the charges were eventually dropped.
Shembo better pray that his attorney knows what he’s doing cause right now, it’s not looking so good for him…
