Ava DuVernay is throwing a free, election-themed movie marathon at her ARRAY Campus to encourage and educate the community about voting, right on time for #SuperTuesday.

“For the People” is DuVernay’s election-themed movie marathon series that will feature five political films from around the world that are directed by people of color and women. Not only will attendees be able to enjoy films for free, but ARRAY will also provide voter registration applications for those who have yet to register.

The screenings will begin Tuesday, March 3, in ARRAY’s Amanda Cinema, along with California’s Super Tuesday. “As a model, ARRAY does steep itself in inclusion models to correct long-held absences. We believe in balance from the beginning,” said DuVernay in a report last year, according to Forbes.

One of the films is a documentary called Integration Report 1, which details the struggles of the Black community fighting for equality during the Civil Rights era in Montgomery, Alabama; Brooklyn, New York; and Washington, D.C. The four other films are I Am Somebody, directed by Madeline Anderson; Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuarón; The Battle of Algiers, directed by Gillo Pontecorvo; and The Perfect Candidate, directed by Haifaa al-Mansour. Anderson also directed Integration Report 1.

The screenings will show throughout the day on March 3. The first film will be Integration 1, which starts at 12 p.m. (PST), and the screenings will end with The Perfect Candidate, which begins at 7:30 p.m. (PST). The “For the People” series was curated by Mercedes Cooper, Director of Programming, ARRAY Alliance. ARRAY Alliance is a non-profit organization founded by DuVernay in 2018.
