Nicki Minaj’s new husband, Kenneth Petty, is in federal custody waiting to face a judge after U.S. Marshals arrested him on an indictment for failing to register as a sex offender.
According to TMZ, Petty turned himself into the Marshals today. The legal troubles started when Minaj’s husband, who moved to California in July 2019 and was pulled over in Beverly Hills on November 15th, and cops determined he was a registered sex offender in New York who had not yet registered in California-as required by law.
At the time, Petty was arrested and released on a $20,000 bond, and then L.A. County D.A. charged him with failure to register.
The newlywed’s rap sheet includes a 1995 conviction for first-degree attempted rape for which he served an almost 4-year sentence in a NY state prison, and that case requires he register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Since his arrest in November, it seems he never followed up and registered because the case is now in the hands of the Feds. With this federal indictment, Petty could be looking at facing up to 10 years in prison.
